The exhibit “Light and Atmosphere” at Miami Art Museum explores how light and atmosphere figure in the artistic imagination and the ways in which MAM’s permanent collection reflects on the natural world. Though light and atmosphere are physical properties, in artistic terms they may refer to anything from an evocation of landscape to a metaphorical contemplation of the human condition. Included in the exhibition are two important new additions to MAM’s holdings: Teresita Fernández’ “Eclipse,” a cloud-like mosaic of acrylic cubes, and Sean Scully’s paining, “Wall of Light Rain,” from a series inspired by the artist’s visit to Mexico. Miami Art Museum is located at 101 W. Flagler St., downtown Miami. For more information, 305-375-3000 or visit www.miamiartmuseum.org.

TRACES - An installation by David Baskin Curated by Nina Arias. David Baskin's recent work explores common objects we encounter everyday, specifically within the structure of the domestic setting. Whether based on his own personal history or on that of others, Baskin is interested in the transformation that occurs when these familiar images are re-contextualized within the artificial construct of a work of art. In this process, not only are the boundaries between personal and universal experiences obscured, but also those between memory and history and object and artifact are questioned. The title TRACES is a reference to the process of creating the drawings and castings as well as a reference to the work as vestiges or footprints of the personal history embodied in each object. At the Ingalls & Associates 771 NE 125th Street Miami, FL 33161 (across from MoCA). For more information call 305.981.7900 or e-mail at IngallsGallery@aol.com
