| Art Miami Announces New Photography Exhibit
Ilana Vardy, Director of Art Miami, announces the special exhibition “Meet Me in Miami” to be hosted at the 16th annual modern and contemporary art fair, January 6 – 9, 2006 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Twenty-three Miami-based photographers will be featured in the show, each presenting their own highly unique perspective of Miami.
“We invited Carol Jazzar to present this wonderful exhibition at Art Miami because we wanted to share these important images of our city with the largest possible audience,” stated Ilana Vardy. “Art Miami is the perfect partner for ‘Meet Me in Miami’ because we are true believers in the cultural depth of this city," continued Vardy.
An artistic photography exhibit featuring artists currently living and working in Miami, “Meet Me in Miami” is divided into three categories: People, Places and Activities. The work is presented in straight photography in both black and white and color.
“This exhibition is a contemporary journey through a city that means something different to everyone,” says Carol Jazzar. “Multi-faceted Miami is glamorous, poor, campy, and touristy; urban yet suburban; ethnic, and chic—a home to those who call it home, regardless of one's origin,” continued Jazzar.
The artists include Benjamin Carrillo, Cheiko Tanemura, Tony Chirino, Jeroen Nelemans, Alex Heria, Robin Hill, Camillo Ramirez, Iran Issa Khan, and Jorge Perez.
“Our exhibition unveils a city of cultural wonders, from the glamour of South Beach to poverty-stricken Overtown,” says Jazzar. “This is not photo-journalism, but a slice of real life from the artists' interpretation, a visual panorama of the city, here and now, unfolding in front of you like a virtual walk down the street” concludes Jazzar.
From January 6 to 9, 2006, Art Miami welcomes more than 125 galleries from 25 countries to celebrate its 16th anniversary. Art Miami provides a venue for visitors to discover new artists and top-level international galleries, working together to build awareness of today’s art world and offer insight into new trends. Art Miami participants exhibit the highest quality paintings, sculptures, photographs and museum-quality works in glass, among other media, all for sale.
