The Miami Improv is proud to present Actor/Comedian Bob Saget. Comedy for adults. Or people with really good fake ID’s. Come see what people are talking about. It ain’t Full House. Yes, Bob Saget starred on two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced ("Full House" and "America’s Funniest Home Videos"), but he's also a whip-smart standup comedian for almost thirty years, not to mention an act that's dirtier than the average frat boy's Olsen twins fantasies. As anyone who remembers his scene-stealing cameos in films like "Half Baked" and "Dumb & Dumber" and will attest, there's something utterly hilarious about seeing the clean cut, boyishly charming Saget embracing his dark side. And his decidedly adult brand of comedy, which deals with life as a single dad, dating, divorce, and any questions you had about "Full House," will leave you looking at Saget in a whole new light. Showtimes: Thurs. 8:30PM / Fri. 8:30PM & 10:45PM / Sat. 7:45PM, 10PM & 11:59PM / Sun. 8:30PM Tickets: $23.54 / Ticket PH: 305-441-8200 or www.improv.com. The IMPROV is located at 3390 Mary St, Ste 356, Miami, FL 33133
November 8 – November 27
Eve Ensler, the author of the international phenomenon The Vagina Monologues, plans to explore and expose even more—when she stars in her new play The Good Body, opening in previews, Tuesday, November 8, at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, 3500 Main Highway. Playing through Sunday, November 27, the official opening is Friday, November 11. When Eve Ensler takes the stage, she doesn’t just perform a play…she causes a sensation. In The Good Body she takes an inside look at the outside, exploring the cultures of beauty, food and desire through the eyes of women around the world. This provocative, hilarious, and profoundly moving show promises to be no less extraordinary than Eve’s previous triumph, which inspired a worldwide revolution. With The Good Body, Eve Ensler turns her unique eye to the rest of the female form. Whether undergoing botox injections or living beneath burkhas, women of all cultures and backgrounds feel compelled to change the way they look in order to fit in. The Good Body merges cross-cultural explorations with Eve’s own personal journey coming to terms with her ‘less-than-flat, post-40’s stomach.’ The Associated Press called The Good Body, “Insightful, entertaining and hilarious,” the San Francisco Chronicle described it as, “Passionate, funny, frank, revealing, even shocking,” while The New York Times said The Good Body is, “forthrightly funny, bristling with wisecracks and exotically harvested snippets of wisdom.” A portion of the proceeds from the tour will benefit V-Day, the global movement founded by Ensler to end violence against women and girls. Performances of The Good Body, at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, 3500 Main Highway, Coconut Grove, are Tuesday-Saturday at 8pm; matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2; Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are now available from $20 at the box office, by calling 305-442-4000, or online at www.cgplayhouse.org.
November 3 – November 5
Combing Through Life’s Tangles is a hilarious screwball musical that exposes the audience to their own personal and social fears about relationships, gender identity, religion, mental illness, immigration and homelessness. “The author captured the interplay of the characters - their feelings, hopes, and hates,” says Miami drama coach and ‘Teacher to the Stars” Jay W. Jensen, who is associate producer. Combing Through Life’s Tangles includes great oldies such as Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” the Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin” (in this case, Beauty Parlor Dreamin), and Neil Diamond’s “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.” It follows the story of Cori, who is dealing with a gender identity crisis, and ultimately, recognizes his own purpose and value. Although the plot is set in a ‘70s-styled beauty salon (anywhere USA), salon employees and customers are forced to deal with the social issues of the new millennium, as they are lead through a hysterical set of events that transform their hearts. Hairstylists for Humanity will receive 100% of the proceeds from the event. The production runs November 3, 4, and 5 at 8pm at Shores Performing Arts Theatre in Miami Shores. Tickets are $20; $5 off for students. Visit www.ticketweb.com or call 866-468-7630 for tickets. For more information about Hairstylists for Humanity, call 954-735-4459 or 305-742-6538, or visit www.hairstylistsforhumanity.org.
