Good Life

Live the Good Life

by Dr. Jane
Contributing Writer

Have you ever agreed to do something out of guilt? Maybe to avoid embarrassment?  Or because you were feeling pressured?  (Don’t worry, we’ve all done it many times over.)  Well, here’s a reason why we all need to put a stop to it!

According to a research study in the Journal of Applied Psychology, choosing goals that fit your values and interests can lead to more happiness.

Just because your co-worker really wants you to go to the club, that’s not a reason to say yes. Just because you feel guilty saying no, that’s not a reason either.  And just because you’ll avoid the shame of being the only one not going…still not a good reason. When you make your decisions, ask yourself if saying “yes” fits with your values.  Is it something that’s important to you?  Is it something that will add enjoyment to your life?  Will it be fun and fulfilling for you?

If we all took the same road, there would be no leaders. There would be no Entertainment News & Views. There would be little inspiration because we’d all share the same future, same goals, and same vision. So, whenever you’re faced with a decision, it’s important that you make your choices wisely. If you’re forced to decide between spending an afternoon in the office and taking a few hours off to help a friend, take a few minutes to look at your big picture. At this point in your life, what are your priorities? Is nurturing your friendships gaining in importance in your life? Would it be fulfilling for you if you took some time to be there for a friend? Would it bring you happiness…or would it make you feel angry and resentful? The decisions you make in your life—as small as they may sometimes seem—they can form a future that will help you stand tall above the rest.

Live your life with a plan. Know what type of person you want to become and make your choices so that they’re consistent with your goals. Follow the rules that you set for your life…And you’ll be the one livin’ happily.

My warmest congratulations to the entire team at Entertainment News & Views. May there be many more happy, brilliant, and inspiring years ahead!
